The Art of Live Recording
As a prospective client I would like to thank you for listening to some of my recent projects. I hope that together we can create the demo or live CD you have always wanted at a price you can afford.
The starting point for a great recording is the microphones. High quality microphones are used for your recording, including microphones by Blue, AKG, Audix, and Audio Technica. I am also one of only a few live sound engineers in the area using Neumann KMS-105 condenser vocal microphones. Each microphone signal is transformer split at the stage to provide a separate signal to the recording equipment. Preamplification provided is from Groove Tubes Bricks, Solid State Logic, True Systems and Mackie Onyx. The outputs are sent to two 24-channel Alesis HD24 Hard Disk Recorders. Up to 8 additional channels can be added to allow 52 channel recordings.
In the studio we have a system based off of the new Mac Pro quad core computer. We use Apple Logic Pro software and complete the digital system with the new Solid State Logic Duende plug-in system. The Duende provides the same sonic palette as the renowned SSL 9000 series mixing consoles. The hardware is based on the new C200 digital SSL console and will provide 32 channels of SSL processing.
For analog processing all signals are routed through a Solid State Logic X-Desk Summing Console. The console provides up to 22 channels at mix down. We have a number of outboard analog options including TC Helicon Voiceworks and Tofts ATC-2 channel stripes.
Recording live music has a whole set of problems inherit to it. Vocalists microphone technique and stage volumes play crucial roles in the final projects clarity and feel. But unlike studio recording were instruments and vocals are recorded separately, live recording requires all microphones to be open at the same time. This creates bleed-thru from microphone to microphone and therefore requires special attention be given to the mixing process.
On the video side of the house we provide two camera angles using the high end cameras by Panasonic. Both cameras use Leica lenses for sharp images. Post production work is done in Final Cut Pro, the industry standard for video cutting. Add to that effects from Boris and you can be sure your video will match the best available.
Each artist I record has the option to help create the demo they want to hear. You are invited to come down for the entire process, just to pick up the CD, or anything in between.
If you are not in a club yet we have two options. I will come to your practice space! We can record in your space if it has the right acoustics. Option two is to come over to our studio to record. Shoot me an email and we can talk!!
ALL THIS FOR A PRICE STUDIOS CAN NOT TOUCH!
